Surfactant
What is a surfactant? A surfactant is a chemical substance that can significantly reduce the surface tension or interfacial tension between two liquids, between liquids and gases, and between liquids and solids.
Surfactants are divided into ionic surfactants (including cationic surfactants, anionic surfactants, amphoteric surfactants), non-ionic surfactants, and composite surfactants.
Surfactants are a type of substance that can significantly reduce the surface tension of liquids and are commonly used in various daily and industrial applications. Its main functions include:

Classification of surfactants
Surfactants can be mainly divided into the following categories based on the type of charged functional groups in their molecular structure:
Anionic surfactants: These surfactants have negatively charged functional groups that dissociate into negatively charged ions in aqueous solutions. Commonly found in daily chemical products such as detergents, shower gels, and shampoos, it has strong cleaning and stain removal capabilities. For example, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is a common anionic surfactant.
Cationic surfactant: A positively charged surfactant mainly used in disinfectants, fungicides, and softeners, which can effectively reduce static electricity accumulation and improve the softness of fabrics. Common examples include quaternary ammonium salt compounds.
Non ionic surfactants: They do not carry charges in their molecular structure and are suitable for various neutral or weakly acidic environments. Non ionic surfactants are commonly used in the cosmetics and food industries due to their mildness, and have high emulsifying stability.
Bipolar surfactant: A surfactant with positive and negative charges that can vary between cations and anions based on the pH value of the solution. Bipolar surfactants are commonly used in personal care products due to their mild and low irritation, making them suitable for skin and hair care.
