Benzyl Mercaptan is an organic synthetic intermediate used as a raw material for the pesticide herbicide “Diclofenan”, insecticide “Chlorfenapyr”, fungicide “Ketoconazole”, and other insecticides.
Benzyl Mercaptan is mainly used to synthesize other compounds with certain activity, such as sulfonamides, scientifically known as O-alkyl-N-alkylthioamino acid esters. It is a high-performance sulfide ore flotation agent, which has the advantages of good selectivity, small dosage, foaming ability, and effective separation of valuable minerals and gangue minerals under low alkali conditions compared to conventional sulfide ore collectors such as yellow medicine and black medicine. It is widely used in the flotation of various copper, gold, lead-zinc ores and is a type of non-ionic sulfide ore collector widely used and researched in flotation.
Benzyl Mercaptan can also be surface modified: through the strong binding ability of thiols with metals (gold, silver, etc.), it can be used for self-assembly of monolayers (SAMs) to modify the surface of electrodes or nanoparticles.
Benzyl Mercaptan can be polymer modified: as a chain transfer agent to regulate free radical polymerization, or by introducing thiol groups to improve material properties such as adhesion and oxidation resistance.
Benzyl Mercaptan can also be used in the food and flavor industry. Flavor additive: it can be used to mix meat flavor, garlic flavor and other food essence at very low concentrations (the dosage needs to be strictly controlled, because there is odor at high concentrations).
